Foundations & Structures

Even well-designed structures will behave poorly if not supported on a proper foundation system. As part of our structural design services, SAGE provides analysis and design of foundations for industrial, commercial, and residential structures. Because we are a geostructural firm, we are well positioned to develop engineering solutions specifically tailored for unique problems that involve complex soil-structure interactions. Our foundation designs have included structures such as:
- Reinforced concrete mat and drilled piers for a 4,000 cubic-foot-per-second (cfs) water supply canal transitioning between competent rock and poor-quality fill;
- High-capacity, small-diameter micropiles for earthquake retrofit and bridge abutment applications;
- Deflection-sensitive micropile foundations for radio-telescope arrays; and
- Reinforced concrete mats designed for industrial loading conditions, including vibration, associated with an aggregate production facility.
In addition to the design of new structures, our services include structural evaluation of existing structures prior to retrofit and/or repair (e.g., ground anchor stabilization or slab jacking for distressed foundations).
